Interested in El Sereno Independent Study?

The first step for all prospective students is to complete our Enrollment Interest Form:

After we receive your form, an El Sereno staff member will contact you with the next steps.

New to San Juan Unified School District?

Students who are not currently enrolled in a San Juan Unified school must first enroll through San Juan Central. Once district enrollment is complete, El Sereno staff will guide you through the transfer process.

Currently Attending a San Juan Unified School?

Students may transfer to El Sereno throughout the school year.

Transfer Process

  1. Meet with your current school counselor to discuss transferring to El Sereno.

  2. If you decide to move forward, your counselor, student, and parent/guardian will complete the Enrollment Interest Form .

  3. El Sereno's counselor will review the application and transcript. Additional information may be requested if needed.

  4. Students with an IEP must work with their case manager to schedule a Change of Placement IEP meeting with El Sereno staff.

  5. Once approved, El Sereno will contact you to schedule a required orientation.

Important Information

  • Students must remain enrolled in their current San Juan Unified school until the transfer is complete. Gaps in enrollment may result in the transfer being denied.

  • Independent study requires students to be able to read and write at or near grade level and work independently.

  • Submission of a transfer application does not guarantee acceptance into El Sereno.

Orientation

Once accepted, families will be scheduled for an in-person orientation.

Before attending orientation:

  • Complete all required enrollment paperwork.

  • Sign and return the Master Agreement (or complete it during orientation).

  • Student attendance is required.

  • Parent/guardian attendance is required unless the student is 18 years of age or older.

Orientations are generally held on Thursday mornings. Translation services and special scheduling accommodations are available upon request.

Please park in the rear parking lot, which provides the most convenient parking for families and students.
