Independent Study - Middle School
El Sereno’s Independent Study Middle School offers an entirely remote program for 6th - 8th students.
Our program offers:
- Apex Learning online curriculum for asynchronous independent learning
- Cumulative, grade level, standards based curriculum
- One-to-one, twice-weekly, interactions virtually (Zoom) with Supervising Teacher
- One-to-one, daily tutoring, with teachers online

PE: pass/fail grading, no dressing down, students choose activities

Calendar of assignment with due dates set for the entire semester
- CAASPP: remote state testing for 6th-8th grade

Student / Parent REQUIREMENTS

In-person orientation prior to enrollment

Reliable high-speed internet service is necessary

Priority resolution of technology issues

Attend teacher meetings twice-a-week (on Zoom)

Attendance earned through work completion

Daily login and engagement for at least one-hour per subject per day (approx. 20-30 hours a week)

Problem solving mindset - attend tutoring (on Zoom) as needed or assigned

Ability and willingness to complete substantial amount of reading at or near grade level with the intent to learn and understand
